VLAN Configuration on
Huawei Switches

VLAN configuration on Huawei switch is not too different than Cisco VLAN configuration. But there are some differences. In this lesson, we will see the VLAN configuration steps on Huawei devices.

For our example, we will use the below VLAN topology.

We will configure each switch for VLANs one by one.

Firstly, we will create the VLANs. We can create VLANs one by one or in a batch. Beside, we will add the description of the VLAN.

Enter system view, return user view with Ctrl+Z.

Now, lets configure the ports.Here, we will configure GigabitEthernet 1/1/1 as trunk.And our access ports will be GigabitEthernet 1/1/2 and GigabitEthernet 1/1/3. We will configure this with the command “port link-type”.

[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/1] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/2

[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/3
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] port link-type access
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] quit

It is time to add ports to the created VLANs. We will add GigabitEthernet 1/1/2 to VLAN 2 and GigabitEthernet 1/1/3 to VLAN 4.

[IPCisco-HCNA-1-vlan2] quit

We can do the same configuration like below with the command “port default vlan” command under the related interface.

[IPCisco-HCNA-1] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/2
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] port default vlan 2
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/3
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] port default vlan 4
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] quit

At this step, we will add a pvid to the trunk and determine the allowed VLANs.And after the configuration, only allowed VLANs will be pass through the Trunk.

Here, we will use pvid 6 for trunk and our allowed VLANs will be the VLANs of the PCs, 2 and 4.

In Huawei configuration there is an additional port type. This port type is Hybrid Port.

Hybrid ports can receive traffic from multiple ports. To provide this, you need to remove tag in the interface.

[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] port link-type hybrid
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] port hybrid pvid vlan 2
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] port hybrid untagged vlan 2
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/2] quit
[IPCisco-HCNA-1] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/3
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] port link-type hybrid
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] port hybrid pvid vlan 4
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] port hybrid untagged vlan 4
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/3] quit

On Trunk links that is using “hybrid” port link-type, tagging must be enabled.

[IPCisco-HCNA-1] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/1
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/1] port link-type hybrid
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/1] port hybrid tagged vlan  2  4

After Switch 1 configuration, we need to do the same configuration on Switch 2.

Voice VLAN Configuration

Voice traffic is a sensitive traffic. To deliver voice traffic without packet loss and delay is very important. In enterprise networks, voice traffic is divided from other traffic by voice VLANs. And voice vlans provide a seperate network to voice traffic. And by doing this, voice traffic is prioritized and smooth voice communication is provided.

Basically Voice VLAN configuration is like below. Under the interface we enable the voice vlan with “voice-vlan vlan enable” command. And we determine the mode as “auto”.

[IPCisco-HCNA-1] interface GigabitEthernet  1/1/4
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/4] voice-vlan 5 enable
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/4] voice-vlan mode auto
[IPCisco-HCNA-1-GigabitEthernet 1/1/4] quit

At the trunk interface, this VLAN is also need to be allowed to pass throught the trunk.
